Clinical Oncology Pharmacist
Alameda Health System

I knew I wanted to go into health care from the start. I decided to go to pharmacy school and did a residency at UC Davis Health, mainly focused in ambulatory care and HIV. Shortly after that, I started working at Alameda Health System as a pharmacist, rotating through various ambulatory care clinics. I’ve been working in oncology since May 2022.

Pharmacists are the frontline contact for patients. I’m able to have direct contact with our breast cancer patients. I can be flexible and follow up with patients and guide them through their chemotherapy treatment.

All of our oncologists and nurses are awesome people. We strive to make sure that we help them make the best decisions for their care. But also, they should not be shy to advocate for themselves. Whatever questions they may have, we encourage them to speak up so that we know how to better care for them.

Our breast cancer patients are in good hands. Our team works together to make sure that we give breast cancer patients the best care. We have a nurse navigator specifically for breast cancer. We have a pharmacist. Our nurses are great and of course, our authorization team is great too. They make sure treatments get authorized in a timely manner. All of us together provide a smooth care plan for the patient.

Working in oncology gives me perspective on humanity and how life is short. I’m reminded that there are more important things than the small things that may irritate us day to day. Everyone has their own story. Everyone has their own issues. I like to make sure that I treat everyone with kindness. Interacting with my patients has taught me that.
